This article provides a general overview of the distance tool feature that includes time/distance calculation. The Distance Tool allows you to add a Rhumb Line (RL) or Great Circle (GC) to an area of interest to gain a distance measurement.
In the Main Menu, toggle the Distance Tool and select the options pencil.
This will bring up the Distance Tool editor on the bottom of the screen.
Create Multi-segment Lines
To create a single or multi-segment line, click create new path.
You will be prompted to select the region of the map to begin the line.
Follow the prompts at the top of the screen to draw first line/segment.
Users have the ability to add nodes to create multi-segment lines/paths by right clicking the end point.
‘Snap-to’ Segments of Vessels
A user may attach a line segment to any vessel icon they have on their SeaVision map.
First, create a line segment.
Using the end of the segment without the Circle icon, right click on the ‘X’. A pop-up menu will appear above the segment-end. Select “SNAP TO VESSEL”
Next, right-click on the vessel that you would like the line segment attached to.
A pop-up message will appear with the instructions “To complete the snap, right click on a vessel.”
Any segment end is allowed to ‘snap-to’ a vessel.
Edit Line Segment
Users can edit individual line segments by selecting the associated node. The current segment is identified by a dotted line. Users can modify by range/bearing and hit update to view immediate changes.
Users have the ability to select various units of measurement (meters, nautical miles, kilometers, miles, feet)
Add Multiple Segments Simultaneously
Users have the ability to add multiple multi-segment lines/paths simultaneously by creating new paths.
You can add as many Distance Tools onto the Map as you need, and if you wish to clear your Map of the Distance Tool(s), pressing the Clear All button will remove all of the tools and their segments.
